Detailed Solution

In April 2006, Nepal witnessed its movement for democracy. Nepal was one of the "third wave" nations to achieve democracy in 1990. Although the monarch still held the title of head of state informally, elected representatives had real power. In 2001, the new king of Nepal, King Gyanendra, was unwilling to submit to democratic governance. He dissolved the democratically elected Parliament and fired the then Prime Minister in February 2005. It led to huge protests in the country. On April 24, 2006, the king finally met the protesters' demands. The Seven Party Alliance chose Girija Prasad Koirala to serve as the nation's Prime Minister. The Parliament removed the king's authority, and Nepal resumed its democratic government.
