The Bastar Rebellion broke out in 1910. The tribal people were all dissatisfied with the changes and problems they were experiencing under British rule in various ways. Their familiar ways of life appeared to be vanishing, their livelihoods threatened, and their religion appeared to be in grave danger. Throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, tribal groups across the country rebelled against changes in the law, restrictions on their practices, new taxes they had to pay, and exploitation by traders and moneylenders. The Kols revolted from 1831 to 1832, the Santhals in 1855, the Bastar Rebellion in central India erupted in 1910, and the Warli Revolt in Maharashtra flared up in 1940.
