Detailed Solution

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj fought against Adilshahi General Afzal Khan of Bijapur at the Battle of Pratapgad. The Battle was fought on November 10, 1659. This fight was fought in the Deccan (Southern) area for supremacy. Shivaji conquered it, establishing Maratha forces as the dominating power in the Deccan area. The Maratha army used "guerrilla warfare" methods to beat Afzal Khan's vast and outnumbered force in the hilly territory of Pratapgad. This surprise attack approach would go on to be one of the most effective in the Deccan area, favoring Maratha armies.
