Detailed Solution

The Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution of India on January 26, 1950. The evolution of the Indian Constitution began during the war for Independence several decades ago but was authored and adopted after Independence in 1947. People realised that in the absence of colonial rule, they needed to establish responsible self-governance. The date of the Constituent Assembly's formal adoption of the Indian Constitution, which included 395 articles and eight schedules, is November 26, 1949. However, this is often mistaken with January 26, 1950, when India's Constitution was enacted. It took the place of the Government of India Act of 1935 as India's governing document. Since 1950, India has celebrated 26  January as Republic Day to commemorate the country's transition to the Independent Republic.
