English East India Company shifted its headquarters to Bombay in 1665.
In Bengal, the English factory at Hugli was founded in 1650. A surgeon from the Hopewell named Gabriel Boughton served as the Mughal Governor's physician, and as a result, the business received improved trading conditions, namely the payment of fixed terms. Bombay was given to the East India Company in 1665 in exchange for a yearly payment to the government of 10 Pounds.
They received a Firman from the Mughal Emperor in 1667 to conduct business in Bengal. The British East India Company moved its headquarters from Surat to Bombay in the same year, 1687. These factors led the East India Company to relocate its headquarters to Bombay.
