Detailed Solution

The First World War broke out in 1914.
The Great War, often known as the First World War, started in July 1914. The war that lasted until 1918 was sparked by the murder of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Franz Ferdinand was the oldest child of Archduke Karl Ludwig. He would succeed Franz Joseph as King of the Austria-Hungarian Empire. On June 28, 1914, Gavrilo Princip—a Young Bosnia Revolutionary Movement member—assassinated Franz Ferdinand and his wife. This sparked Austria-Hungary to declare war on Serbia. On July 28, 1914, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, beginning the First World War.
