Detailed Solution

The Kalang uprising took place in 1755. The Kalangs of Java were a community of sure-handed forest cutters and shifting cultivators. Once the Dutch gained management over the forests within the eighteenth century, they tried to form the Kalangs to work underneath them. In 1770 the Kalangs resisted by assaulting a Dutch fort at Joana. However, the rising was suppressed. Within the nineteenth century, the Dutch enacted forest law in Java, proscribing villagers' access to forests. In 1882, 2 hundred thousand eighty thousand sleepers were exported from Java alone.
