In 1996 the Kerala government brought some significant changes.
To improve the standard of living of its people, in 1996, the Kerala government made some important changes. It allocated 40% of its budget to the local government, that is, the Panchayats. They believe that the Panchayats can plan in a better way how they are going to spend their budgets based on their requirements. The budget was further channelized into various avenues like water, food, women's education, and development. Water supply schemes were checked. Anganwadis were ensured. Health centres were improved. Other than these, various problems of the villages were taken up. However, despite all these efforts of the government, some problems like - shortage of beds and medicines, lack of doctors, etc. remained.
