Detailed Solution

In 1765, the Mughal emperor appointed the Company as the Diwan in Bengal.
The Diwani gave the Company access to Bengal's enormous revenue streams. This resolved a significant issue the Company had been having. Its trade with India had grown since the early eighteenth century. But it had to buy most of the products in India using gold and silver from Britain. This was because Britain had no products to offer in India then. Following the Battle of Plassey, the flow of gold from Britain decreased, and it eventually halted entirely with Diwani's ascent. Now, company expenses could be covered by India's earnings.
