Detailed Solution

Following the failure of the Cabinet Mission, the Muslim League resolved to launch a widespread campaign to fulfil its desire for Pakistan. August 16, 1946, was their "Direct Action Day". The Calcutta riots that started on this day lasted for days and killed thousands of lives. Several women faced horrific brutalities during the partition. Also, thousands of people were massacred. Innumerable people had to leave their houses. They were forced to live as refugees in other countries after being uprooted from their native places. Hence, the country was divided into Pakistan and India.
