Detailed Solution

In 1998 the Nationalists and the UK government arrived at a compromise to end violence. On April 10, 1998, the Belfast Agreement (or Good Friday Agreement, as it was later known) was signed, which included proposals for a Northern Ireland Assembly with a power-sharing executive, new cross-border institutions with the Republic of Ireland, and a body to link devolved assemblies across the UK with Westminster and Dublin. The Republic of Ireland has also decided to relinquish its constitutional claim to the six counties of Northern Ireland. A multi-party agreement has been formed by the majority of Northern Ireland's political parties.
