The Romanov dynasty came to an end in 1917.
The Bolsheviks assassinated the Tsar and his household on July 16, 1918. At the Alexander Palace in Tsarskoye Selo, the Provisional Government put Nicholas and his family under house arrest in March. Due to his actions and choices, Nicholas II damaged the nation's economy and his standing in the eyes of the populace. Thus due to his poor behaviour, the regime fell. Therefore, it was not appropriate for Nicholas to rule the Russian Empire. The empire and the governing Romanov dynasty ended on March 15, 1917, with Nicholas II's resignation. The search by the Russian elite for a new monarchic lineage led to the establishment of the empire.
