The Rowlatt Act came into effect on 10th March 1919. This Act was also known as the "black act". The Rowlatt Act gave the British government the authority to arrest suspects without a court proceeding. Many revolutionaries were imprisoned for no substantial reason under the Rowlatt Act. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre, which killed more than 16,000 people, was caused due to the Rowlatt Act, in which more than 16,000 people assembled to protest the Act.
