Detailed Solution

The ryots refused to grow indigo in Bengal in March 1859. This anger of the peasants of Bengal was due to the continued cultivation of indigo, which damaged the field as the productivity of the land decreased because of the low fertility. This was the disadvantage of growing indigo because it damaged the field. No other crop could be sown in the field where indigo was once cultivated. It caused the insufficiency of crops and damage to fields. This was the reason for the refusal to grow indigo.
