A new state named Andhra was formed on 1 October 1953. This state was formed on a linguistic basis, which means making a state for people having different languages and cultures. Andhra Pradesh was made for people who speak Telugu. Districts belonging to Madras state voted to be part of Andhra. The first state in India which was constituted under the State Reorganization Act of 1956 was Andhra Pradesh. And from 1956 Andhra state was renamed Andhra Pradesh by combining it with the then Hyderabad state. Hyderabad was made the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
