In 1498, Vasco da Gama sailed in Calicut. Vasco Da Gama's initial voyage to India started in 1497. He came to India by the Cape of good hope, a headline on the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula. Vasco Da Gama's discovery of the sea route to India shortened the distance, and now the Portuguese ships didn't need to cross through the highly disputed Mediterranean. This voyage of Vasco Da Gama was the first ever link between Europe and Asia through an ocean route. On 20th May of 1498, Vasco Da Gama landed in Calicut.
