i) In muscles of man during exercise, when oxygen is inadequate for cellular respiration anaerobic respiration occurs and pyruvic acid is reduced to lactic acid.
ii) In Yeasts when oxygen is not available, anaerobic respiration occurs and pyruvic acid is converted to CO2 and ethanol.
