Concept- Neap tides occur when the difference between high and low tides is less than usual.
Let's look at the general meaning of tide first.
The term "tide" refers to the rising and falling of the sea levels as a result of the moon and sun's attraction. The Earth's surface and all of its oceans are actually being pulled in different directions by the moon's gravitational pull.
The weak tides are another name for neap tides. This is because they are far lower in height than spring tides, which are the maximum high tides that can occur. Since the neap tides happen when the sun and moon are at a straight angle, the earth's gravitational pull is at its weakest at this location.
