When ethyl alcohol and KI reacted in presence of ${\mathrm{Na}}_2{\mathrm{CO}}_3\text{, }$ yellow crystals of……. are formed

$\underset{\mathrm{ethyl} \mathrm{alcohol}}{{\mathrm{C}}_2{\mathrm{H}}_5\mathrm{OH}} + \mathrm{KI} \stackrel{{\mathrm{Na}}_2{\mathrm{CO}}_3}{\to } \underset{\mathrm{yellow} \mathrm{crystals}}{{\mathrm{CHI}}_3}$

This reaction is called Iodoform reaction, ethyl alcohol is first converted into ethanol, which upon further oxidation, gives yellow crystals of CHI₃​.
