Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed in 1945. Thousands of people were killed and maimed when the two atomic bombs were dropped on Japan in 1945, and the impact of those bombings may still be seen today. The bombardment is believed to have killed 140,000 people in Hiroshima and 74,000 in Nagasaki by 1945. Many survivors would go on to develop leukaemia, cancer, or other horrific radiation-related side effects in the years that followed.
