When high-energy alpha particles pass through nitrogen gas, an isotope of oxygen is made with proton and thus changes it into hydeozen gas.
Some of a nitrogen nucleus' seven protons were driven out when an alpha particle struck it. The nucleus of a hydrogen atom, which consists of just one proton with an electron rotating around it, was formed from each of these free protons. Thus, hydrogen was created from nitrogen.
