Detailed Solution

When power among the different organs of the government is called Horizontal division  of powers. There are two systems of power-sharing- 1) Vertical power-sharing and 2) Horizontal power-sharing. The system of checks and balances is found in the horizontal form of power-sharing. The three organs among which the power is shared are- the executive, the legislature, and the judiciary. They are considered to be equally powerful and important. The first organ is the executive, which is responsible for implementing the laws and policies. The second organ, the legislature, is responsible for formulating the policies. And the judiciary gives justice to all citizens. The system of checks and balances is introduced to see that no organ exercises unlimited power.
