The Tawa dam began its construction in 1958 and completed its work in 1978. As part of building the dam authorities displaced many forest dwellers and vast agricultural land got submerged. The displaced people didn’t get the deserving compensation. Few of them lived near the reservoir and others took fishing as their means of livelihood. The TMS organization was formed so that the local people can get their basic livelihood. They conducted rallies for their rights. TMS helped people in doing their fishing. They set up the cooperative. The cooperative bought the fish from the people at a fair price. This helped the fishing people to increase their income.
