Increase in the altitude of the sun = 30 °   to 45 °   Decrease in the length of the shadow of palm tree by 12m
We draw diagram,
Question ImageWe use the trigonometric identity tanθ= perpendicular base  .
We get the value of BC from ΔABC  ,
tan 45 ° = AB BC 1= h x [tan 45 ° =1] x=h.........(i)   We get the value of AB from ΔABD  ,
tan 30 ° = AB BD 1 3 = h BC+CD [tan 30 ° = 1 3 ] 1 3 = h x+12 ......(ii)   Substituting the value of x from (i) in equation (ii),
1 3 = h x+12 1 3 = h h+12 h+12= 3 h  
12= 3 hh 12=h 3 1 12 3 1 =h   h= 12 3 1 × 3 +1 3 +1 h= 12 3 +1 31 h= 12 3 +1 2 h=6 3 +1 m  
Thus the length of palm tree will be 6 3 +1  m.
Therefore the correct option is 3.
