Resistance can be defined as the opposition to the flow of current. It is directly proportional to the length of the wire and inversely proportional to the area of the cross-section of the wire.

Where R is resistance, l is the length of wire and A is the area of cross-section. Since resistance is inversely proportional to the area of cross-section therefore when the area of cross-section increases then the resistance of the wire decreases.
