When the force acts in the opposite direction of motion of a body, then the work done is negative work, and when the force acts in the direction of motion of the body, then the work done is positive work.
When the force and displacement of an object are in the same direction of motion, the work done on an object is said to be positive work. If the displacement is opposite to the direction of the force applied, then the work done on an object is negative work. When force and displacement are perpendicular to each other, or when force or displacement is zero, the work done is zero.
