France was in complete turmoil by July 1789. In Versailles, the monarch's residence, the Third Estate members walked out of the Estates General to protest against the king's refusal to implement each person one vote. They then formed a National Assembly and committed to drafting a constitution to limit the monarch's powers. Moreover, the people were also getting agitated; crowds of women stormed into shops when they realised bakers were hoarding bread supplies. Finally, on 14 July, Parisians became alarmed when the king ordered troops to move into the city of Paris, and they ended up storming and destroying Bastille.
