  • If the nuclear charge of an atom is less, there will be a lesser attraction for the electrons of the outermost shell. 
  • Therefore the electrons in the outermost shell are loosely held and because of this lesser energy is required to remove the electrons.
  • Hence the ionisation enthalpy will also be less.
