"When a body is immersed in a liquid, an upward force equal to the weight of the liquid displaced acts on it," says Archimedes' principle. An object's ability to float or sink is determined by its relative density to other objects. The object will sink if its density is greater than the density of the liquid. On the other hand, if an object's density is less than that of the liquid, it will float above it. If the object and liquid have the same density, they are in equilibrium and float and sink simultaneously.
