Detailed Solution

When they heard about the Non-Cooperation Movement, plantation workers defied the Inland Emigration Act of 1859.
Plantation workers were prohibited from leaving the tea gardens under the Inland Emigration Act of 1859; in reality, such permission was hardly granted. Thousands of employees disobeyed the government, abandoned the plantations, and returned home after learning about the Non-Cooperation Movement. They thought the Gandhi Raj would soon arrive and provide everyone land in their communities. But they were never able to reach their destination. Due to a railway and steamer strike that left them stranded, they were apprehended by the authorities and brutally beaten.
