In 1920, Khilafat and Non-cooperation were brought together to restore the position of khalifa. Muslims considered the religious head the caliph (or khalifa) sultan of turkey. During the second world war, the British threatened turkey by weakening the khalifa's position then Indian Muslims adopted an aggressive anti-British attitude. Gandhiji supported this movement. INC resulted in Hindu-Muslim unity. Gandhiji, the Ali brothers, and INC started a non-cooperation movement for swaraj as its ultimatum aim.
