Detailed Solution

Monarchy in Nepal was abolished in 2008. The 1990 constitution of Nepal created a democratic monarchy in Nepal where the executive powers of the Kingdom of Nepal were vested in the king and the council of ministers. This democratic monarchy was established in Nepal after people struggled in 1990. But in 2005, the King of Nepal dissolved the Parliament and took over as head of the government. In 2006, another popular struggle took place, demanding the restoration of the Parliament and a democratic government. As a result, the parties requested the establishment of a constituent assembly to create a new constitution that abolished the monarchy, which came into force in 2008. The new constitution vested the executive powers in the council of ministers.
