Detailed Solution

The Poona Pact was signed in 1932.
At the second Round Table Conference, Dr B.R. Ambedkar, who in 1930 organized the Dalits into the Depressed Classes Association, disagreed with Mahatma Gandhi by calling for separate electorates for the Dalits. Gandhiji started a fast until death when the British government agreed to Ambedkar's demand. Separate voting districts for Dalits, in his opinion, would impede their integration into the mainstream. In the end, Ambedkar sided with Gandhiji, and the Poona Pact of September 1932 was the conclusion. It provided reserved seats in provincial and national legislative bodies for the Depressed Classes (later referred to as Schedule Castes), but these seats had to be elected by the general electorate.
