The Child Marriage Restraint Act was adopted in 1929. Many reforms were there for the upliftment of women. During those times girls were married at a very young age. Many reformers protested against child marriage. During those times there was a growth in women's organisations. The women started writing about the issues regarding child marriage. As a result, the reform movement strengthened. People challenged child marriage. Many Indian legislators fought to make a law that prevents child marriage. Finally in 1929 child marriage restraint Act was passed. The age for marriage for women was changed to 18 and for men, it was made 21.
