Detailed Solution

The English Education Act for higher education was introduced in 1835 declaring the English language as the medium of instruction in higher educational institutions and abolishing the promotion of Oriental institutions like the Sanskrit College in Benaras and Calcutta Madrasa. British officials like James Mill and Thomas Macaulay severely criticized the Orientalist vision of learning and declared it to be full of grave errors. In the 1830s, the criticism of Orients became stronger with critics of that period like Thomas Macaulay, who emphasized teaching Indians the English language and urged the British government to stop encouraging the Oriental system of education and learning.
