Detailed Solution

The English Education Act was introduced in 1835.
Macaulay emphasised the importance of teaching English. He believed that a working understanding of English would enable Indians to read some of the best literature ever written and keep them informed of changes in Western science and thought. Thus, teaching English could be a means of bringing about a difference in people's likes, values, and cultures. The English Education Act of 1835 was introduced after Macaulay's minute. Hence English textbooks for schools were developed. The decision was, however, made to discontinue promoting Eastern institutions like the Calcutta Madrasa and the Benaras Sanskrit College and switch the higher education curriculum to English. These organisations were seen as "temples of darkness that were degenerating into rot."
