In 1854, the first cotton mill was established in Bombay. The Bombay Spinning Mill was the first cotton mill in Bombay, which was established in July 1854 and inaugurated by Cowasji Nanabhai Davar. The mill began production two years later. Production was done under the supervision of British engineers. The mill grew as an important port for exporting raw material of cotton from India to England and China.
