In 1818, Fort Glastor, which is close to Kolkata, became India's first cotton textile mill, but this mill was a failure. In Mumbai, large-scale cotton production first began in 1854. The second facility, built in Bombay by KGN Daber in 1854, is regarded as the actual birthplace of India's modern cotton industry. Bombay Spinning & Weaving Company was its name.
