Detailed Solution

1853 saw the opening of the first railway line. Indian Railways is a vital mode of transportation in the country. Almost every section of the country is connected by railways. The first train in India departed Bombay (now Mumbai) for Thane on April 16, 1853. Lord Dalhousie gave it his blessing. The train, which has 14 carriages, was drawn by the Sahib, Sindh, and Sultan steam locomotive engines. It travelled around 34 kilometres and transported approximately 400 people. The Great Indian Peninsula Railway built and operated the railway's passenger line.
