The First World War was from 1914 to 1918. Even though most of the war was fought in Europe, its impact was felt worldwide. It threw the first half of the twentieth century into a crisis that took almost three decades to overcome. The world was wracked by massive economic and political unrest, leading to another devastating war twenty years later, from 1939 to 1945. For the first time in history, a war of this magnitude was fought with many countries on each side. The war also witnessed the use of guns and modern weaponry to a large extent.
