Detailed Solution

The Forest act that divided forests into three categories was imposed in 1878.
The Forest Act of 1878 gave the British Government control over all wastelands, including woods. In protected forests, the local rights were rejected. However, the government has the right to revoke privileges granted to the population. The forests were divided into three categories by this Act: protected forests, reserved forests, and village forests. "Reserved forests" were the best forests. Moreover, the villagers are not permitted to take anything from these woodlands. However, they could collect wood from community woodlands or forests under protection to build houses or for fuel. It aimed to establish state authority over forests and restrict how forest residents may obtain forest products.
