Detailed Solution

The Indian Forest Act came into effect in 1865.
Dietrich Brandis contributed majorly to this legislation. Initially enacted in 1865, it was revised a second time in 1927 after the first change occurred in 1878. Under the terms of the 1878 Act, forests were divided into reserved, protected, and village forests. The best forests were referred to as reserved woodlands. The peasants were forbidden from taking anything from these woodlands, not even for personal use. However, they may harvest wood from protected or village forests to build homes or fuel. The colonial authorities also advised ending shifting farming, hunting, and collection of wood products in 1905 and reserving two-thirds of the forest.
