The Mandal Commission was the 2nd Backward Classes Commission, which the Government of India appointed in 1979 and was led by B.P. Mandal. It was chosen to establish the standards for identifying India's socially and educationally underprivileged sections and to suggest measures that should be implemented to advance them.
