The popular movement started in Nepal in April 2006.
The movement was aimed at regaining the power and control over the government from the then king i,e; to regain democracy in Nepal. The people had defied the authority and position of the monarch of Nepal (an immediate neighbour of India) and wanted to establish democracy. However, before this, a movement to gain democracy had propagated in Nepal during the 1990s, and it was called the Jana Andolan or the People’s Movement.
