Detailed Solution

The Quit India Movement was launched in August 1942.
During the Second World War, Mahatma Gandhi decided to launch a new phase of his anti-British campaign. He commanded the British to leave India right away. He urged the populace to 'fight the British to the death' but in a non-violent manner. While Gandhi and other leaders were imprisoned, the movement continued to grow. Peasants and young people who had given up their studies to join the campaign were driven to it. Hence, attacks against government communications and symbols occurred all around the nation.
