Detailed Solution

The second five-year plan was formulated in April 1956 and lasted till March 1961. The plan favoured industrialisation contrary to the former plan that had emphasized agriculture majorly. It is also known as the Mahalanobis plan as it was formulated by P.C. Mahalanobis. He wanted to strengthen India industrially and develop an industrial economy in India. The plan was successful to some extent as it focused on the public sector and “rapid industrialisation” at its very core.
