The state of Paris was alarming state on 14 July 1789.
The city of Paris was in fear on July 14, 1789. The king had given orders for troops to enter the city. There were whispers that he was about to order the troops to fire on the civilians. In front of the town hall, about 7,000 men and women came together and decided to establish a people's militia. In pursuit of weapons, they broke into a variety of government structures. A party of several hundred individuals finally marched to the eastern section of the city and stormed the fortress prison, the Bastille, hoping to find hidden ammunition.
