The (SRC) States Reorganization Commission was formed in 1953.
The Indian Central Government established the States Reorganization Commission (SRC) in August 1953 to recommend state border reorganization based on language, culture, race, or geography. According to the act, India's state borders would be reorganized into 14 states and six centrally governed regions. On September 30, 1955, the SRC submitted its report. One of the most popular demands was for states to be reorganized based on languages to make administration more accessible and to replace controversial caste and religion-based identities with less contentious linguistic identities.
