Detailed Solution

The Tashkent Agreement was signed on 10 January 1966. The agreement was signed between the two neighbouring nations, India and Pakistan. In August 1965, Pakistan made attempts to seize Kashmir, although India foiled this effort. The war which had broken out was ended with the intervention of the United Nations. Further, the then Prime Minister of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, or the USSR, invited the then Prime Minister of India (Lal Bahadur Shastri) and the then Prime Minister of Pakistan (General Ayub Khan) to settle the dispute. The Prime Ministers were invited to Tashkent to sign the Tashkent Agreement. However, the agreement failed in its attempt to recover the relations between India and Pakistan.
