The word ‘secular’ was added to the Constitution of India in 1976.
The word secular was not originally a part of the Indian Constitution. It was added by an amendment made in 1976. Along with secularism, two more words were added to the Preamble of the Constitution of India. Since the 42nd amendment brought many changes to the Constitution of India, it is also called a “mini Constitution”.
